Connecticut Exemption Notes

Connecticut Exemption Changes in 2021:  H.B. 6466:

  • Raised the homestead exemption to $250,000,
  • motor vehicle exemption to $7,000, and
  • created an exemption for the cash surrender value of life insurance policies.
  • Signed into law on July 12, 2021.

Can I use the §522(d) Federal Bankruptcy Exemptions in Connecticut?

Yes. Federal exemptions are available in Connecticut.

KEY EXEMPTIONS:

Owner occupied real property, co-op or mobile manufactured home, to $250,000. (Effective October 1, 2021)
