Connecticut Exemption Changes in 2021:  H.B. 6466:

  • Raised the homestead exemption to $250,000,
  • motor vehicle exemption to $7,000, and
  • created an exemption for the cash surrender value of life insurance policies.
  • Signed into law on July 12, 2021.

KEY EXEMPTIONS:

Homestead

Owner occupied real property, co-op or mobile manufactured home, to $250,000. (Effective October 1, 2021)

Motor Vehicle

$7,000

Wildcard

$1,000 of any property

Personal Property

Wedding & engagement rings
Appliances, food, clothing, furniture, bedding
Health aids needed
Transfers to a nonprofit debt adjuster
