What West Virginia Residents Need to Know About Obamacare for 2024

If you lose your job, your health insurance coverage may disappear along with it. But you have several ways to make sure you're not without coverage going forward.

Coverage under the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). If you receive unemployment benefits for at least one week in 2021, you may be able to get a mid-level Obamacare plan for 2021 at no cost to you. These benefits result from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) signed by President Biden on March 11, 2021.

As an alternative, you may be able to keep your employer-provided health care coverage under COBRA, a federal law that lets many ex-employees continue their existing coverage for 18 months. ARPA provides free coverage under COBRA from April through September of 2021.
