The minimum wage in Michigan is $8.50 an hour. Because this is higher than the federal minimum wage of $7.25, employees in Michigan must be paid at least $8.50 an hour. 

If You Earn Tips in Michigan

Some states allow employers to pay tipped employees a lower minimum hourly wage; others don't. 

In Michigan, your employer may pay you a minimum wage of $3.23 an hour, as long as you earn enough in tips to bring your total hourly pay up to the full minimum wage. If you don’t earn enough in tips to bring your compensation to the full minimum wage, your employer must make up the difference.

Overtime Rules in Michigan

Some states follow the federal overtime standard, and some have their own rules. 

If you work more than 40 hours in a workweek, your employer must pay you 1-1/2 times your regular hourly wage for each overtime hour you work under Michigan overtime rules, unless you are exempt. In addition to employees subject to "white collar" exemptions from overtime pay eligibility, employees employed by seasonal amusement or recreational establishments operating not more than seven months per year and agricultural employees are exempt from overtime pay eligibility in Michigan.
