Current Minimum Wage in Missouri

The federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) sets the “floor” minimum wage for eligible workers in the U.S. But, many states and some local governments set their own minimum wage. Workers are entitled to be paid the highest minimum wage that applies where they work, whether it is set by federal, state, or local law.

The minimum wage in Missouri is $7.65 an hour. Because this is higher than the federal minimum wage of $7.25, employees in Missouri must be paid at least $7.65 an hour.

Two cities, Kansas City and St. Louis, have passed their own laws setting a higher minimum wage for employees within the city limits. However, Missouri has a statewide law that prohibits local governments from adopting local minimum wages. State courts are currently determining whether the higher city wages will be allowed to go into effect or not.
