What Are the Laws About Poll Observers and Vote Challenges in Utah?

There has been much discussion about whether votes in this next election will be counted securely.

Every state has rules about what poll observers can do at the polls and how votes can be challenged. Here are the rules for your state:

Utah Any individual may become a watcher in an election at any time by registering as a watcher with the administering election officer. A person that is a candidate whose name will appear on the ballot, a qualified write-in candidate for the election, a registered political party, or a political issues committee may certify an individual as an official watcher for the person. (Utah Code Ann. § 20A-3-201). 

A poll worker, a watcher, or an individual who lives in the voting precinct may challenge an individual’s eligibility to vote in that voting precinct or in that election. (Utah Code Ann. § 20A-3- 202.5).
